We are so sad to share the news that one of our Sunrise Holland members, Joe Schuler, unexpectedly died last week.
Hello Sunrise Holland,
We don’t typically reach out more than once every two weeks, but something has happened, and we need to come together as a community in solidarity.
We received word yesterday that one of our Sunrise Holland members, Joe Schuler, unexpectedly died on February 27. He was 23 years old, a teacher and basketball coach at Black River. He was a wonderful human being; funny, outgoing, kind, thoughtful, and authentic. He joined Sunrise Holland last fall and had worked with us on our Community Energy project and appeared in our “Sunrise Holland: Who We Are” video.
He was a wonderful mentor to me personally, and I wish I had the chance to thank him for everything he did and who he was. One last time.
But I think that’s something we can work together to do now.
I want to give him a tribute from Sunrise Holland, and I’m hoping each of you might be willing to do something small to participate: film a short clip of yourself saying: “thank you, Joe Schuler.” We’re going to put these clips together into a short video, combined with clips of the footage from the Sunrise Holland film and some photos and videos of him.
Each person filming a clip of themselves for the video should wear orange, because that was his favorite color, and sit or stand nearby plants or a forest. Your video does not have to be professional or filmed using a fancy camera- this is about the meaning, not the professionalism.
If you are willing to help, please film a short video and upload it through the google form linked below! You have until Sunday, March 6 to submit a video.
Thank you all so, so much for considering this. We appreciate you very much, and thank you for your time.
Take care,
Hannah (Hub Director, Sunrise Holland)
