Welcome to all Sunrise Holland members, both active and general!
First of all, thank you so much for continuing to read these emails- recently, views of these emails by general members have increased, so thanks to our general members specifically, because it’s so important that we are “on the same page” as a movement.:)
Announcements:
1.) Subcommittees
An update on the subcommittee meetings for this month!
Racial Equity and Environmental Justice Subcommittee (REEJ)
Date: March 13, 6:30pm
Agenda: continue planning our community event- an interactive simulation about environmental racism- which will be held in late-April! We’ll also discuss the fundamentals of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and how we incorporate each into our group structure.
Community Energy Subcommittee (CE)
Date: March 13, 8:00pm
Agenda: we are developing a training for individuals in other municipalities, which will help them learn how to use our Municipal Community Energy Plan Development Framework. We’ll also focus in on our Holland-based impact in relation to the Community Energy Plan Steering Committee (CEPSC)!
2.) Reminder: Composting Framework
Back in December, we partnered with the Black River Green Team to begin work on a framework which any school can use to develop a composting program. We’re so thrilled that it’s published, and we’d love for you to check it out! If you know of any students/parents/teachers at other local schools who may be interested in this effort, please pass this along to them! 😊

4.) Video Tribute
Last week, we reached out to you with awful news about one of our members, Joe Schuler: he died unexpectedly on February 27. He was such a wonderful human being and we are so grateful for the time we had to be in community with him. We will miss him deeply: his laughter, his smile, his kindness, and everything he brought to us.
His impact on our community is continuous even though his life has ended: and to honor him with stories, several Sunrise Holland members worked together to create a beautiful video tribute to him. You can watch it here:
Thanks again for staying informed about our efforts, and we hope you have a wonderful week!
Take care,
Hannah from Sunrise Holland
