When You Know...
Sunrise Holland 2.0, Tulip Time recycling, celebration, and social media highlight!
Welcome back!!
It may seem that things have been slow around here since active member meetings have been postponed until June, but rest assured, there’s been a lot happening behind the scenes in preparation for summer, and we are INSPIRED. 💕
Thanks for tuning in for another bimonthly update!
Announcements:
1.) Tulip Time
Sunrise Holland is supporting a TULIP TIME RECYCLING initiative led by Ken Freestone, former Residential Energy Advisor of the City of Holland, and the Black River Green Team! As Tulip Time is getting closer, we are recruiting volunteers to supervise recycling stations at the Tulip Time Run. It is a great way to help the community and support sustainability, and, if you are a student, you can get community service credit for volunteering!
We must work together to prevent contamination of the recycling at the Run so that we can divert a massive amount of waste from the landfill. This, of course, benefits the planet, AND it helps ensure that the plastics that harm our health aren’t being reintroduced into the environment, as they are when we throw plastic away instead of recycling.
Please sign up to volunteer at the link below!
2.) Meetings Again!
Sunrise Holland meetings will be happening again over the summer. Two internal members have been working together to completely overhaul our organizational and meeting structures as well as many of our methodologies, so that when we come back in the summer, we can be more focused, more organized, more oriented toward diversity, equity, and inclusion, and maintain greater numbers in involvement. We are so excited to bring Sunrise Holland 2.0 to you in this summer, and we encourage you to consider attending an active member meeting, even if you never have previously! Meeting and event dates are always available on our website, at the link below. 😊
3.) Celebration
It’s important to take time to celebrate our movement and our community. Here is a list of some of the things we’ve accomplished since our founding a year ago! Click the links on each to learn more about them! 🤩
Events:
Green New Deal (GND) Teach-In (community education event)
Toolkits:
Frameworks:
Municipal Framework for Community Energy Plan Development
Environmental Justice Through a Racial Equity Lens Simulation
We are so proud of all of this; however, it’s most important to remember that the deepest value is found in the relationships we’re cultivating, and sustaining our individual and collective commitment to social change ultimately defines our impact.
Social Media Highlight
As you know if you follow us on any of our social media platforms, one of our major priorities this month has been RECRUITMENT!
Here is a flyer we put out on our social media, which we encouraged people to share in order to spread the word about Sunrise Holland.
Can you share it with just one person you know this week and invite them to follow our social media or subscribe to our newsletter? 😊
Thanks as always for reading our updates, and have a wonderful week!
Best,
Hannah (Sunrise Holland Hub Director)
