Hey, Sunrise Holland!
You guessed it, we’re here with a fresh batch of updates just for you. 😊
Announcements:
1.) Hub Co-Director
We’ve re-opened applications for the hub co-director position! But take note- the role looks a bit different than we originally planned.
We’re still looking for someone who identifies as a BIPOC person UNDER the age of 25, but we’re now specifically looking for somebody who will lead one of our subcommittees!
This role comes with less responsibility but is a fantastic opportunity to lead a specific initiative, stretch the boundaries of your comfort zone, and further develop your advocacy skills.
Even if you’re worried you may be under-qualified, please consider applying! Commitment is what we prioritize most.

2.) Environmental Justice and Racial Equity- Interactive Simulation!
One of the projects we’ve begun working on in February is developing an interactive simulation for small groups to use to learn about environmental racism. It’s approximately 1/2 presentational and 1/2 playing a board game designed to help you comprehend the concepts!
The simulation covers themes including but not limited to redlining neighborhoods, discrimination, the disproportionate effects of climate disasters on people of color, generational trauma, and racist disparities within public health.
The full simulation will be published and released in our next newsletter edition, so please STAY TUNED for that! :)
3.) Reminder: Composting Framework
Back in December, the BR Green Team partnered with the Holland Sunrise Movement to begin work on a framework which any school can use to develop a composting program. We’re so thrilled that it’s published, and we’d love for you to check it out! If you know of any students/parents/teachers at other local schools who may be interested in this effort, please pass this along to them! 😊
4.) Subcommittees
Our leadership team is still developing a plan for subcommittees- we hoped to have 3, 1) Environmental Justice and Racial Equity, 2) Community Energy, and 3) Tulip Time Recycling, but we currently do not have anyone to lead the Tulip Time Recycling committee- if you’re potentially interested in taking that on, please reply to this email and we’ll get back to you with more information about the responsibilities of this team leader and talk more.:)
The Community Energy subcommittee will be meeting later this month- if you’re interested in this, shoot us a quick email back saying “Your Name, CEP Team” and we’ll include you in the email about it!
Finally, you’ll hear more about the Environmental Justice and Racial Equity subcommittee in the next edition of the newsletter.:)
Thanks again for staying informed about our efforts, and we hope you have a wonderful week!
Take care,
Hannah from Sunrise Holland
